888 Exits US Market in Strategic Shift

The digital gaming firm, 888, is exiting the American market completely. Their US holdings are being acquired by Hard Rock Digital, mirroring a recent move by Kindred Group.

Anticipated to close in late 2024, the transaction awaits regulatory green lights. 888 will then initiate a gradual departure from its remaining US ventures, aiming for a complete exit by the close of 2024.

This withdrawal means 888 is relinquishing potential earnings but also liberating resources. Starting in 2025, they project annual savings of approximately £25 million (roughly $31.5 million). While £10 million will address exit-related expenses, the remainder will be channeled back into expansion within other markets.

This strategic shift has been underway for some time, and its financial effects were already incorporated into the objectives 888 disclosed earlier this year.

Subsequent to the publication of their 2023 fiscal statement, 888 Holdings has unveiled a fresh series of strategic actions. Although the gaming behemoth declared earnings of £1.71 billion, primarily attributed to the prosperous incorporation of William Hill earlier in the year, their gains experienced a decline. Notwithstanding the revenue surge (on a pro forma foundation), their modified post-tax profits contracted by 25% to £48.1 million. This follows a Gambling Commission assessment of 888’s operational permit, though ultimately no penalties were levied.
