Australians Call for End to Sports Betting Sponsorships

A new survey indicates that most Australians desire the termination of sports betting partnerships. The survey, carried out by Resolve Strategic, revealed that 62% of Australian electors endorse a prohibition on wagering corporations backing professional athletics.

Intriguingly, there’s diminished backing for barring other sectors from sponsoring sports. Although a considerable fraction (38%) wish to see liquor companies prohibited, merely 27% endorse a ban on energy companies. This implies that Australians perceive gambling sponsorships as especially troublesome.

These outcomes are unsurprising considering the worrisome sum of money Australians expend on gambling. As per the Australian Gambling Commission, Australians spent a massive $25 billion on gambling in 2018-2019, with sports wagering constituting a significant portion of that figure.

While the wagering sector contributes a substantial sum in taxes, detractors contend that the societal costs far exceed the financial gains. They cite the normalization of gambling, particularly among youth, and the industry’s widespread impact on sports as primary concerns.

Hes essentially arguing that these wagering corporations are specifically aiming at a younger demographic, and that it’s a quick descent from casual wagers to complete dependence. He believes it will only deteriorate as wagering becomes increasingly prevalent.
