Royal Ascot’s Britannia Stakes to Benefit UK Charities Through Betting Industry Initiative

The renowned Royal Ascot’s Britannia Stakes is poised to be a major charitable event, benefiting organizations throughout the United Kingdom. Irrespective of the victors on the course, deserving causes are assured a substantial financial boost due to the magnanimity of the wagering sector.

Continuing a longstanding custom, wagering companies affiliated with the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) will contribute all earnings from the Britannia Stakes to a diverse array of charities.

The roster of participating operators reads like a who’s who of British bookmakers, featuring prominent names such as Flutter (encompassing brands like Paddy Power, Betfair, and Sky Bet), bet355, Entain (parent company of Ladbrokes and Coral), 888, William Hill, Kindred (with its well-known Unibet brand), Betway, Rank Group (recognized for Grosvenor Sport), Virgin Bet, LivescoreBet, Tote, Fitzdares, and Bet with Ascot.

Michael Dugher, the BGC’s Chief Executive, conveyed his pleasure, stating, “Royal Ascot, one of the most storied and internationally acclaimed sporting spectacles, will once more serve as a stage to amass crucial funds for numerous deserving charities.” He underscored the privilege felt by BGC members in marking the King’s coronation through this act of donating all profits from the Britannia Stakes.

Dugher also emphasized the fitting homage this endeavor pays to the late Queen Elizabeth II, a sovereign celebrated for her love of equestrian sport. Her Majesty bred numerous triumphant racehorses and enjoyed over 1800 victories on the turf during her lifetime.

In the previous year alone, this joint effort from the betting industry yielded an impressive £1.2 million (approximately $1.5 million) for various charitable organizations. Since its commencement in 2019, the initiative has amassed over £5.5 million, highlighting its considerable influence.

All proceeds from a unique wagering venture, encompassing gains from wagers placed on individual steeds and overall race outcomes, will be gifted to charitable organizations after tax deductions. Should the participating bookmakers incur losses on the wagers themselves, they have committed to jointly contributing a minimum of £250,000.

This season, the designated beneficiaries encompass the Holocaust Educational Trust, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, the SAS Regimental Association (SASRA), Ascot Racecourse Supports, WellChild, and SportsAid, an organization for which the Princess of Wales serves as a Patron.

Furthermore, there’s added cause for festivity during this year’s races! Incentive Games has collaborated with bet365 to introduce a complimentary horse racing game tailored specifically for Royal Ascot.
