The Massachusetts Lottery achieved a record-breaking profit of $1.105 billion (£791.2 million/€930.2 million) in the financial year 2021, which ended on June 30, 2021.
The organization slightly surpassed its previous record of $1.104 billion set in the financial year 2019.
Income also reached a new all-time high of $5.83 billion, compared to the previous record of $5.51 billion in 2019. This marks the seventh consecutive year that income has surpassed the $5 billion mark.
The effect of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic led to a decrease in income and profits to $5.26 billion and $986.9 million respectively in the financial year 2020.
The 2021 figures have not yet been officially audited, but the lottery said it anticipates no material changes after the audit process is complete.
